We posted notices and got a text from a guy at 11:30pm on Sat (4/1) night saying that he had seen the bike for sale. Long and short, 1.5 hrs and $300 later, we had 'bought' the bike back. Not ideal, but buying a new bike would have cost us a lot more. translated from English

Someone in SF observed some guy trying to sell a bike that she was pretty sure was stolen. She was proactive and went out to talk to them (kind of brave I think!). The person ran off leaving my bike with her. She called the police, who told her it was hopeless to find the owner, so they were going to trash it (boo!). But she persuaded them to leave it with her, and looked up the serial # on the Bike Index -- and found me! I never thought I would get my bike back -- I had it for 30 years, so it is a sentimental thing for me. Thanks Alison, and thanks Bike Index! translated from English

3 months after it was stolen, someone from Bike Index spotted it for sale at the Laney Fleamarket in Oakland, and gave me a call. I went to the front gate, told them I was there to recover my stolen bike. Paid $1 entry fee, went in and located my bike, then went back to the front. They radio'd two undercover security guards to escort me to the vendor booth. We got there, they told him I was there to get my stolen bike and that I would be taking it. They took down my information, recorded the vendors ID, and I was sent away with my bike while the vendor of stolen goods waited with the Laney Flea security to be questioned and escorted off the premises by the police. It was awesome. Thank you bike index! translated from English

So this is how it happened. I was at work on Tusday when I get a text from a random # asking if I was still missing my Commencal. I respond with a sure am and the person sent me a link to this sight Offer Up. Sure enough some guy is trying to sell my bike. So I call spd and they tell me that I should try to make a meeting with this guy. So I do and we set a meeting at south center mall at 630-7 at the Bank of America. So I call spd back and they say that I need to get in contact with Tukwilla. I call Tukwilla, they're like cool but let's make it at Office Depot instead. So I text the dude a little worried that I might spook him and ask if we can met at the other location instead. He says sure and says he is going to be driving a white navigator. So Jim, Jay, Dylan and my self post up in the parking lot and wait for the dude to come. Tukwilla pd say to text when he comes there were near by. They came fast rolling eight cars deep guns drawn. It was for real. The really nuts thing was that at around 5 the guy asks me if I want a Banshee Rune too, an other high end bike that was stolen from me as well. I tell him sure. So I got back my DH bike and my trail bike too! One year later! Couldn't have done this with out you amazing help!!! translated from English

Someone recently sold the bike via OfferUp.
