Description of incident

A woman and a male in their 20’s were casing our neighborhood when my son and I were in our detached garage, which is about 10 feet off the street. My son was going running after homework so I was going to ride with him. Video cameras (ours and our neighbors) shows the couple was watching us for 20 minutes from a dark side yard. With all the lights on in the garage I propped the bike against a table after bringing it outside the house. We popped into the house for less than a minute at 8:18 pm and returned and it was gone. We searched the neighborhood with friends and even talked with the couple 30 minutes later on a different street (we didn’t know about the video yet) who denied all knowledge. It turns out they had stashed the bike in the bushes five houses down in the dark and returned to pick up the bike at 11 PM. We stopped our search at 10:45 PM. It was pure bad luck—this couple just happened to come by at this particular time. The video shows the man spinning the pedals backwards as he passed our house, probably as a sign of victory.
