About 7:45PM on July 23 I got home from riding my bike downtown Raleigh. I was dog sitting some elderly dogs and ran inside to let them out because I had been gone a while. My bike was on the back of the car. I got distracted by the dogs and forgot I hadn't brought my bike in yet. I usually lock it on the rack but my lock was in my boyfriend's pack. Got distracted and was sitting on the couch for a while. Front door was unlocked and slightly ajar. My boyfriend got home, and a few minutes later around 8:30/45 a York security officer rang the doorbell asked if we had a bike on the car and that someone saw a kid taking it off the car and called security. I described my bike and he said he had caught up to a kid with that same bike but he couldn't prove it wasn't his bc he didn't have the description from me yet so he let him go. Said it was an African American kid around 15 or so. Got a name from another kid but thought it was fake. This incident with the kid happened on Royal Troon Drive in my neighborhood (Hedingham). The neighbors told the York officer that kids around there have been known to steal bikes and ride them up and down that street in the evenings. We drove around looking for the bike for hours but found nothing.
