Bought this bike in April 2016 by answering a Craigslist ad from a guy named Bob who is a retired lawyer. The providence I have regarding the bike is as follows: He was the original owner and purchased the bike in 1972 for around $200. He rode it mostly in the District going to and from capital hill where he worked at the time. For the past 20 years or so, it has been sitting in his garage unused. It appears to have all original equipment to include gumwall tires, simplex gears, mafac "racer" brakes and the retaining nibs for the Zefal pump (missing) that came with the bike. My plan is to clean it up and put some new brake pads and make it roadworthy. I will probably use it as an exercise trainer or a daily commuter as long as I can make it unattractive enough to not get stolen. More info about this bike: The Interclub and Grand Sport De Luxe were the bottom tier Gitanes offered in the U. S. during the 1970's. They make great "city bike" converts. With Stamped steel dropouts and "chromoly" tubing, they came with extremely heavy Stronglight steel cranks and usually with Simplex derailleurs and Mafac Racer brakes. With a similar look to the Super Corsa and Tour De France, they still looked good, even if they weren't the fastest bikes on the road.
