I know this sounds really ignorant of me, but I'd lost my lock that morning and I needed to grab bananas. I thought "what are the odds of someone taking my back, albeit unlocked, in the time it takes me to buy bananas? Probably pretty low." I stopped at Safeway and ran in to buy them (I couldn't have been in there for more than 5 minutes) and by the time I came back out, someone had grabbed my bike.
