So my bike was stolen by 2 or 3 kids from the lobby of the Healing Center on the parking lot side by the Co-op at 6:15 pm tonight. Like an idiot, I left it there while I ran into the store to buy one thing, like I've done in the past. In line for checkout I had a weird feeling and went to look and it was gone. Several people on St. Claude had seen 2 or 3 kids riding like mad toward the canal on St. Claude. What makes me maddest besides my being a fool, is they took off with both my full shopping bags from Walgreens in the basket.
It's a super rusty beat-up old white Schwinn cruiser. Both whitewall tires are very rusty too, the left black rubber grip is shoved way up the handlebar, and the seat is messed up and was covered with several black plastic shopping bags tied over it. (I don't have a photo.) It's like the jankiest bike they've probably ever stolen.
NOPD jumped right on it when I called, and I ran into a detective who happened to be out cruising the neighborhood and was already looking for them. They even started to file a report (I have a report number and everything) before I had a chance to call them back. The kids were right on camera in the foyer, too, and so there will be film. In the meantime, please holler if you happen to see my bike, and ESPECIALLY if you see two random Walgreens bags full of Epsom salts and vitamins. Those damn kids got all my old-lady supplies, dammit.
