- Description of incident
-
Bike was parked on its stand, in front yard adjacent to front deck. I left for a bike ride on my other road bike just before noon and the bike was there (usually leave it here locked, although it's locked to itself and not to a post or stationary external object.) It was locked with a cable lock but could be lifted as it was not secured to anything. However, it was inside the front yard which is fenced, except for an entryway by the driveway that accesses the front door. By the time I returned, I immediately noticed that the Decathlon bike was missing. My wife who was home while I was away, was in the kitchen inside and said she didn't notice anything. It appears that this theft took place within that hour and a half that I was gone and my wife was indoors in our house. This is alarming considering that the day was bright and our St is a busy street with both walkers and vehicles, and in broad daylight a theft can occur from inside our front yard. That too of a locked bicycle. I'm trying to get the serial number for the bike from the seller and will update the report if I get it. Usually, I'm diligent about recording serial nos on my bikes that I've purchased for myself and my family members, however in this case, I did not, perhaps because it was a folding bike and not easily visible. This is brazen daylight robbery from private property inside our yard and although the value of the stolen bike is not high, it's very concerning that such theft should occur.
