Description of incident
I arrived at 365 Canal St at 7:30 am on Monday the 29th and doublechecked that my mountain bike was secured and locked facing West at the 3rd horizontal green post from the electric bikes stands/bus stop along Canal ST (near the corner of N Peters St). Nothing out of the ordinary. At 4:30 pm, my bike wasn't there and a teal bike was locked to the post instead. In the 4th post from the bus stop/bike stands, a dark grey cruiser bike was still locked there from this morning. Both 365 Canal and Canal Place Mall said that the posts were city property, they could not help me. Bike is faded dark purple and black, worn, rusted in the handlebars. The Diamondback Topanga logo is faded. It is a 7x3 gear bike, but only two gears work, there is a silver downwards arrow drawn on the right gear shift. There were around 6 Hello Kitty stickers around the frame and a clear, white lettered rectangled "Caution: Woman Driver" sticker on the top tube. Cup holder on the down tube is black metal. I don't have actual photos of the bike, the picture attached is from a cleaner looking bike from the Internet. It had a black Amazon Basics Bike Cable Lock attached around the back wheel, seat tube and seat stay. It has a wide cushioned seat. The bike seems to be 30 years old and is very tricky to ride because of the gears and the chain comes loose easily. A rider who doesnt know this wouldnt last. It is a big bike and the seat is adjusted to my tall height. It just had both of the tires filled with air.
