Below is one of the posts I posted on Craiglist's bike forum and in the "Wanted section" BEWARE AND ON THE LOOKOUT, POTENTIAL BIKE BUYERS 08/09 07:07 BIKE STOLEN: DESCRIPTION: TRAYL TRAX 24" BOYS BICYCLE. Additional: Double Seat cushion, one on top of the other. Attachable strobe light, rear-view mirror, small bell on left handlebar. ORANGE COLOR. Serial # 13D001305 (or 130001305, or 13D601305. Sales associate who filled out the sale slip had clumsy handwriting ) Where: Bike taken from the "2nd bike rack" (nearest double phone booth) in front of Trader Joe's, 6th Avenue between 21st and 22nd Street. Time: Within 1:00PM and 1:20 PM on Friday August 8 2014. Owner momentarily secured the bike among other bikes in front of the store. After returning from the nearby Home Depot found that the bike was gone. Not likely that crime was not witnessed. Someone must have seen someone sawing or cutting the lock and removing the bike. Other bike owners securing their bikes to the racks suggested to bike owner to look into Craiglist where stolen bikes are often sold . Bike belonged to licensed wildlife rehabber and was used as transport for sick animals +biohazards. Theft was reported to police. If anyone witnessed the taking of this bike or other suspicious activity please email me at lawlessly@yahoo.com or call 917-494-3723 (Crank calls or emails will be reported to police). If anyone is in possession of this bike use the email address here. Warning to bike owners who shop at Trader Joe's at 6th Av. 21st Street NYC. This is potentially the job of a bike-theft ring which travels by van and seeks out unattended bicycles in busy unsuspecting location and works quickly. Also anyone being offered a Trayl Trax 24" bike as described should be suspicious. Anyone who has recently bought a used Trayl Trax 24" bike as described should look at serial number. If none was offered or visible it is likely that the bike was obtained by theft somehow. I have posted this theft alert in different internet sites (such as facebook). It is my attempt at getting the word out that my bike had been stolen and I am making an attempt at having it returned to me. Anyone responsible for the unlawful taking of this bike is advised to use the above mentioned contact information to arrange to return it. No questions asked if done this way
