At about 6pm on April 10 2022 I used my Abus folding lock to lock my bike to a streetsign pole on the sidewalk in front of the Sun and Moon restaurant on 3rd and Brannan. I then entered the restaurant and ate dinner for about an hour. I came outside at 7pm to find the pole completely empty. I asked a couple sitting outside at the Local Tap bar, adjacent to Sun and Moon on the street, what had happened and they told me the bouncer of the bar had seen sparks from someone assumedly using an angle grinder to saw my lock. The bouncer approached the thief but the thief managed to saw through the lock in time and take off with the bike. I went into the Local Tap and went over this story with the bartender, who had the sawed-through lock. It would probably have been better if I took the lock for evidence, but I was pretty sad and not thinking straight, so I left the lock with the bar. I then returned home via Uber.
