Description of incident

Between the hours of 1400 and 1730, an individual came onto private property of the complex, crawled over my patio fence with intent to steal my Cannondale bike. It was locked to the side gutter with a cable lock. The thief pulled or unscrewed the gutter, lifted the bike back over the fence, stepped in my garden bed (imprint still there), and either rode, walked, or put the bike into a vehicle to get away. No witnesses. When I returned home at 1730, my bike was gone, yet my boyfriends Schwinn, which was unlocked on the patio, was still there. I immediately reported mine stolen with EPD and took his bike to the bike path in search of my bike. I began at on the path by North Delta and Beltline and worked my way South then East along the north side of the Willamette River. When my boyfriend returned home, he borrowed my brother's bike and met me along the path. We worked our way down the path stopping at each trail. At 1920 we spotted my bike helmet down a trail in the bushes in one of the many homeless camps along 126 between Valley River Inn and McMenamins North Bank. We called in to report the possible finding of my bike and were told that officers will likely not be able to join us, so we called a couple friends to support us in case of any confrontation. When the friends arrived, so did the officers. The officers went down to confront one of the men tearing apart bikes. No info regarding where the helmet came from. Not even 10 minutes after this, a man came riding down to the camp next to us to drop off a bike he was hauling along (ghost biking). We walked over to that camp and he told us this was his camp, then saw the police and slowly began to get back on "his" bike to ride back to where he came from. We investigated his camp of many many many bicycle parts and noticed the bike he had just dropped off had my bike tires on it. We immediately confiscated my property (I had brought my bike receipt with me as proof) and went in search of the man who had dropped it off. No luck. Multiple bike frames, wheels, parts are along the ODOT section of the northbank Willamette Bike path!
