Friedrich Braun locked the bike with the cable part of the lock to the bike rack at the base of the Santa Monica pier, north side. The bike rack is constructed in such a manner that he could not use the U-lock part of the lock. He left the bike at about noon and came back at about 2:30 pm, and the bike was gone.
