Description of incident
On 7/16/2023, at approximately 1514 hours, I (Deputy Milhous #4621) was assigned to a call for
service regarding a stolen mountain bike in Downieville. I was notified that the victim was waiting
for deputy contact at the Sheriff's Office to give a statement. I arrived on scene and met with the
victim (later identified as Sean Paul Carson) to obtain the following statement:
Carson was visiting from Canada and was a part of the Downieville downhill classic that was
happening that weekend. Carson states he brough his bike and was supposed to stay in Penn Valley
but was drinking and got offered to stay in Downieville with a subject staying off main street.
During the night festivities, Carson was watching from the porch and kept his bike in front of the
house on the lawn side of the fence. Carson remembers last seeing the bike at approximately 0100
hours but found it missing when he went outside the following morning around 0700 hours. Carson
was able to obtain video surveillance from the neighbor's outdoor camera footage but was unable
to identify the subject who took his bike. Carson explains his bike as the following: Green Kona
Process Mountain bike with yellow writing, purple headset spacers, blue grips, Shimono xt pedals,
Seven Summits sticker underneath with a Carson sticker on the side, plug in the tire, an orange
cap on shock fork with other stickers located on various parts of the bike as well relating to Seven
Summits and S. Carson. The bike is worth over $6000 and is a unique bike with multiple identifiers
custom to Carson. Carson also mentioned a crack in the frame that needed to be replaced if a real
rider knew what he or she was looking at.
