Thank you so so so much to Bike Index and to Ofc. Sanders. I was so bummed when my bike was stolen from my school, but thanks to Bike Index just the other day I got an email from a police officer saying he had my bike, and I'm going to go pick it up in a few days. A huge thanks to Bike Index. vertaald uit het Engels
Someone in SF observed some guy trying to sell a bike that she was pretty sure was stolen. She was proactive and went out to talk to them (kind of brave I think!). The person ran off leaving my bike with her. She called the police, who told her it was hopeless to find the owner, so they were going to trash it (boo!). But she persuaded them to leave it with her, and looked up the serial # on the Bike Index -- and found me! I never thought I would get my bike back -- I had it for 30 years, so it is a sentimental thing for me. Thanks Alison, and thanks Bike Index! vertaald uit het Engels

A good samaritan (thanks Aaron) saw a sketchy dude locking up a bike that looked a bit too nice. So, he waited until he left and checked the serial number against the stolen bike registry. He found my posting and called me. He then proceeded to lock up my bike until I got there. It was pretty awesome. The cops and Harborview security cut through the thiefs lock. vertaald uit het Engels

3 months after it was stolen, someone from Bike Index spotted it for sale at the Laney Fleamarket in Oakland, and gave me a call. I went to the front gate, told them I was there to recover my stolen bike. Paid $1 entry fee, went in and located my bike, then went back to the front. They radio'd two undercover security guards to escort me to the vendor booth. We got there, they told him I was there to get my stolen bike and that I would be taking it. They took down my information, recorded the vendors ID, and I was sent away with my bike while the vendor of stolen goods waited with the Laney Flea security to be questioned and escorted off the premises by the police. It was awesome. Thank you bike index! vertaald uit het Engels

Officers Scott and Young at the Portland Police Bureau were incredible in getting my bikes home almost immediately after they were taken. The bikes were effectively untouched. Thank you to the PPB and Bike Index for everything. I'm beyond appreciative and owe you all beers. To Officer Young, I owe you many shuttles at Post Canyon or any point-to-point trail of your choice. vertaald uit het Engels
So this is how it happened. I was at work on Tusday when I get a text from a random # asking if I was still missing my Commencal. I respond with a sure am and the person sent me a link to this sight Offer Up. Sure enough some guy is trying to sell my bike. So I call spd and they tell me that I should try to make a meeting with this guy. So I do and we set a meeting at south center mall at 630-7 at the Bank of America. So I call spd back and they say that I need to get in contact with Tukwilla. I call Tukwilla, they're like cool but let's make it at Office Depot instead. So I text the dude a little worried that I might spook him and ask if we can met at the other location instead. He says sure and says he is going to be driving a white navigator. So Jim, Jay, Dylan and my self post up in the parking lot and wait for the dude to come. Tukwilla pd say to text when he comes there were near by. They came fast rolling eight cars deep guns drawn. It was for real. The really nuts thing was that at around 5 the guy asks me if I want a Banshee Rune too, an other high end bike that was stolen from me as well. I tell him sure. So I got back my DH bike and my trail bike too! One year later! Couldn't have done this with out you amazing help!!! vertaald uit het Engels

Someone recently sold the bike via OfferUp. After purchasing, the buyer thought there was something odd about the seller being not the type of person who would build/own a custom S&S travel track bike. He looked up the bike, found it on the registry and returned it to me. I paid the buyer what he had paid for the bike + $100 for the effort and kindness. vertaald uit het Engels

i spotted the bike at a homeless encampment less than a mile from my home. i did not have the serial # logged anywhere other than bike registry, so it was helpful that i could retrieve that info here and use it in my police report, which was crucial in getting my bike back after calling it in. vertaald uit het Engels

I had posted my bike as stolen, with pictures, on Craigslist. A great human being messaged me to say someone was offering my bike as a trade and that it was posted on OfferUp. I then asked a local rider on mtbr.com if he would help me get it back, and he was down. So we met up and went to the sale together (Police were aware but unable to get us a stand-by unit in time). Thief let me test ride it, so my friend got in his car and drove away as I pedaled out of there, middle finger waaaaay up! We re-met down the road, checked the serial # and put my bike on his car rack and took it home. Len, thanks bro! vertaald uit het Engels

A member of Bike Index spotted my bike listed on a site called offerup.com. he messaged me. My son and I set up a time to "Buy" the bike from the "Holder" of the bike in a Lowe's parking lot. we arrived early and staked out the setting. I went in the store to wait. My son messaged me when they arrived. I went out to the parking lot further away and watched the situation. When my son confirmed the bike was mine, he gave me the pre-determined signal. I called 911. he went inside the store to "get money from the ATM" to stall. I saw the people were getting nervous and getting ready to leave. I went up and confronted them at that point to stall them. The police arrived in about 8 minutes after I called them. The police then confirmed details and I was able to take the bike home with me :D vertaald uit het Engels
